Where have you been volunteering?
I've been volunteering at Crew 2000 which is a drug/sexual health information project.

What do you do?
I co-ordinate the DJ workshop called “Positive Noise”; answer the phone sometimes and clean the shop and office.

How long have you been doing it?
Since September/October 2002.

Why did you decide to volunteer?
I had a severe drug problem and I wanted to try and fill the space that was left at the time as I was coming off that particular drug.

What's the best thing(s) about volunteering & what do you enjoy?
The best thing about volunteering is the people you meet and I enjoy using my life experience in this creative environment.

What have you learned through volunteering?
I have learned about equal opportunities; unconditional positive regard; listening skills; body language skills; peer support skills; boundaries; empathy and empathic listening; non-verbal communication; summarising.

Anything else you'd like to say -- hit it.
Volunteering is a very positive thing anyone can do as long as you're prepared to put a lot into it.
